Juvenile
Juvenile Department
The Juvenile Department’s main office is located in Coquille at 240 North Collier Street, directly behind the courthouse.
The Juvenile Department is committed to promoting the well-being of youth, their families, and the community through the use of effective, evidence-based practices. Dedicated staff work collaboratively with the youth, families and schools, along with State Courts, and community partners to address risk factors, build strengths, and support positive behavioral change while maintaining accountability.
Juvenile Detention
Detention is an essential component of the juvenile justice system and is used when necessary to protect public safety, support the wellness of the youth, and ensure a juvenile’s appearance at subsequent court hearings. Detention options are short-term and are applied at a level appropriate to the risk posed by the youth.
Coos County currently contracts with Douglas County to provide juvenile detention services. Upon authorization for detention, youth are transported to the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Facility in Roseburg, Oregon, by either Juvenile Department staff or a representative from the Oregon Youth Authority. Detention hearings are typically conducted via video conferencing.
